The 1460 Sqn. Marching Band lead the way

The Helmdon Carnival Committee would like to say a huge "Thank You", to everyone who put time and effort into ensuring that the Carnival weekend was a success. Also many thanks for continued support from the village community and to those who volunteered, sponsored, attended and contributed, during the lead up and over the Bank holiday weekend. Carnival weekend was deemed a great success with positive feedback. For once this year the weather was undoubtedly on our side all weekend and enabled an ideal setting for the village to get together and have pleasurable few days.

The Carnival originally began in order to raise monies for the Sports Club and the Reading room and also provides donations to Brackley Cottage Hospital and local groups and organisations such as the 'Guides', Helmdon School, the Church and the Rainbows. So if anyone would like to start a new project, or set up a new group, or just help an existing one then please apply in writing to the committee, with the reasons for your request and how much before the 12th October 2007.

Carnival weekend began with a Disco and Karaoke held at the sports field on the Saturday night. On the Sunday morning a lively, "Songs of Praise", followed in the evening, by a Quiz and very successful Auction, at the Bell Inn. On the Bank holiday Monday the Carnival was incredibly well attended. This year it was kindly opened by members of the first ever Carnival Committee from 1982! Events that took place included 1460 Sqn. Marching Band, St Johns Ambulance demonstration, "Crufts" Dog Show, Irish Dancers, Icarus Falconry display, "Rodeo Dan", Grand Draw and a very competitive Tug of War plus many other stalls and attractions!

Village groups and organisations had stalls and organised refreshments to enabling the event to be a success. This year children of Helmdon School produced some tremendous drawings in a competition to illustrate the front cover of the programme.

Local volunteers offer their services, time, tractors, fields, physical strength and support, in preparing for the weekend and also make up the Carnival Committee. This demonstrates, even after 25 years, how our Village continues to achieve and maintain a sense of community spirit, support and fun for its residents and those in the nearby villages. If you would like to become more involved please contact a member of the committee.
