1st Helmdon Girl Guides - News Archive 2008 -2010
Report from Autumn Talkabout - posted 27 November 2010
Over the past few months we have joined in many Centenary celebrations as Girl Guiding has enjoyed 100 years. One such event was a large camp in May of this year at Warwick Castle with thousands of other Guides which was great fun. We also joined in a parade (at) Drayton Manor with rides to finish off! We have also enjoyed 4 weeks of sailing, walks and campfire cooking to name but a few activities. We then finished off our summer term with a week of camping at Cannock Chase which was great fun.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank HYHOs and the Parish Council for their continued support of our group.

Being a Guide is all about learning new skills, asking new friends, helping others and having FUN! Guides are usually aged between 10 and 14, although some Guides like to stay until they are older.
We started the 1st Helmdon Guide unit less than 6 years ago with 3 guides – we now have 24 with more to join. We do operate a waiting list, so please contact our Unit Guider, Michelle Rimmer, on 012985 768603 if you think your daughter would like to join. We meet every Monday evening during term time.
Over the last few months we have undertaken a session at the SnoZone tobogganing as well as swimming, building and lighting campfires, making bug boxes, a bat evening – the list is endless.
We have started our Centenary celebrations as Girl Guiding is enjoying 100 years. We started the celebrations with 10,000 other Guiding members in April 2010 and a large camp in May at Warwick Castle with thousands of other Guides – we just don't stop.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank HYHO (Helmdon Young Husbands Organization) for their continued support of our Group.

1st Helmdon Guide unit has now been running for almost four years, and we now have 20 members with more to join in the next 6 months! We do operate a waiting list, so please contact our unit Leader, Michele Rimmer, on 01295 768603 if you think your daughter would like to join. We meet every Monday evening during term time.
We have undertaken 'penny walks' in the dark, archery, orienteering, cooking, learnt circus skills, swimming, roller skating and campfires – the list is endless! We went to London and completed our 'London Monopoly Challenge' – 18 Guides and 6 Leaders, it was great fun! A full day out with various challenges finishing with a trip on the London Eye.
We went on our first week's camp in July which was a huge success. We had a great time, lots of activities such as raft building and crate stacking, we visited Sherwood Forest for the day and even managed to have great weather while away!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for their continued support and to HYHO (Helmdon Young Husbands Organization) who have helped us with financial donations.
